Dual pump effluent chamber overhaul

  • Falcon Works

Customer first reported to us for pump related issues and asked platinum to survey the site. Due to the past contractor’s lack of urgency and professionalism the site looked elsewhere. Platinum arrived 1 day after the issue was reported.

The Story of Falcon Works Industrial

Plant, known locally as the Falcon Works, was established in 1865 to build steam locomotives. Henry Hughes built the first factory on the site in the 1860s which was dedicated to building parts for locomotives. In 1889, Anglo-American company Brush Electrical Engineering took over the Falcon Works and would soon become part of the fabric of the town. With the site being so large it would mean they had a large amount of pump stations to cope with the storm and effluent wastewater that was on site.

The Challenge

Dual Pump Effluent Chamber

Customer reported Several Faults with not just this chamber but several other chambers on site. The biggest issue on this chamber was the state of which the chamber and controls were in.

After a thorough inspection we found only one of the two pumps working and would only work in manual which meant personnel on site would have to come every time the chamber got full and manually pump down. As you can imagine this is not ideal and was the reason for the urgent response.

Along with this and several other chambers we wrote a report of all our findings and was sent by the morning with full quotations for the repairs.

The client was pleased with the fast turn around and I quote.

“Fast Response time and Professionalism”

Why Falcon Works Chose Platinum

Along with the fast turnaround and good communication the client understood the quotations and lead time for parts to be ordered. They had the option to go to their previous contractor, however an engineer was unable to attend for 3 weeks, which became apparent that this would not be suitable.

This led Platinum to take on all repairs and all maintenance for the pumps on site.

What Happened Next

After orders were received Platinum swiftly acted and removed all faulty equipment including

  • Faulty Pump
  • Control Panel
  • Lifting Chains
  • Guide Rails
  • Pipework
  • Float Controls

We then set on Cleaning emptying and jetting the chamber.

The Results

A new pump was installed and tested along with new guide rails and top mounts complete with new control panel with alarm and float controls. Chamber was completed and tested. The system is now fully operational.
